Training Courses

Instrument Flight Training

The course consists of two modules, which may be taken separately or combined.

Basic Instrument Flight Module
This comprises 10 hours of instrument time under instruction. The flying exercises of the Basic Instrument Flight Module comprise Procedures and maneuvers for basic instrument flight covering at least:

Basic instrument flight without external visual cues
Horizontal flight
Climbing
Descending
Turns in level flight, climbing, descending
Instrument pattern
Steep turn
Radio navigation
Recovery from unusual attitudes
Limited panel

Procedural Instrument Flight Module

This comprises the remainder of the training syllabus for the IR (A)- 40 hours single-engine instrument time under instruction, of which up to 30 hours can be instrument ground time in FNPT II, and the theoretical knowledge course for the IR(A).

In case the applicant is holder of MEP rating and fulfil the requirements of UCAA PEL REGULATIONS 2020- 5 more hours instrument time under instruction are needed on a multi-engine aeroplane according to UCAA PEL REGULATIONS 2020).

Procedural Instrument Flight Module

The flying exercises of the Procedural Instrument Flight Module comprise:

  • pre-flight procedures for IFR flights, including the use of the flight manual and appropriate air traffic services documents in the preparation of an IFR flight plan
  • procedure and manoeuvres for IFR operation under normal, abnormal and emergency conditions covering at least
    • transition from visual to instrument flight on take off
    • standard instrument departures and arrivals
    • enroute IFR procedures
    • holding procedures
    • instrument approaches to specified minima
    • missed approach procedures

Course Aims

The aim of the course is to train pilots to the level of proficiency necessary to operate aeroplanes under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), in accordance with ICAO PANS-OPS Document 8168.

Course Duration

The course shall last not less than six(6) months and not more than twenty-four (24) months.

Course Aims

Pre-entry Requirements

An applicant for an IR(A) shall:

Hold a PPL(A) including a night qualification or CPL(A)
Have completed at least 50 hours cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command
Have the ability to use the English language for the following purposes:
Flight: Radio telephony relevant to all phases of flight, including emergency
Ground: Be able to read and demonstrate an understanding of technical manualswritten in pre-flight planning, weather information collection, NOTAMs, ATC Flight Plan, use of all aeronautical en-route, departure and approach charts and associated documents written in
Communication: Be able to communicate with other crew members in English during all phases of flight, including flight
Enrollment

Enrollment

Upon enrollment, an applicant will fill out an official application form and shall have with them the following:

  • Four (4) passport photographs.
  • Validated photocopy of high School certificate or equivalent
  • Validated photocopy of ID or
  • Valid Class 2 Medical
  • A deposit of at least 40% of the total tuition fees for the course.
  • Copy of Birth Certificate.

Course Details

The course shall comprise

  • Theoretical training: To instruct the students in a pure theoretical principle.
  • Practical flight training: To instruct the student in the execution of the theoretical and practical principle.

Theoretical Training

The theoretical training is conducted from Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 01:00pm.

The course will comprise nine (9) theoretical subjects, 58 hours of instruction (1 hour = 60 minutes instruction), which includes formal classroom work. The nine (9) subjects are analyzed as follows.
